Sportiest Sedan The 2012 Porsche Panamera

If you are looking for the complete Porsche package while also wanting a four-door car, the Panamera is your best bet.  The German brand does not necessarily make ‘family cars’ but lately the trend in the automobile industry is changing and every major marque is gearing up to capture the largest market share in each segment. The 2012 Porsche Panamera is one of the best of its time and for a good reason because the car came in various trims. There was a regular one, a hybrid version, and a sports turbo version. At the time of its release, the Panamera was one of the most environmentally friendly cars.

Overview

The 2012 Porsche Panamera was reasonably priced at its time. Even now you can get one for under MYR 300k for pre-owned unit. To top it off, it can be used as a family car so you won’t have to sacrifice your Porsche 911 for nothing. Instead, you get a highly capable sedan that can destroy any other sports car in a matter of seconds.

Exterior

The front fascia of the Porsche Panamera looks like any other Porsche car. It has those curious beetle eyes that are noticeable from miles away. The car does not have much in terms of a grille. It has a lip-like slit on the bottom that, with the air vents on the side, help in feeding the air intake with fresh air. Porsche’s signature logo sits on the bonnet. The rear is where the car looks different. It has large taillights sporty exhaust but a rounded bubbly appearance. That is unlike any other Porsche. Overall, the car can be summed up as a family car has a sporty appearance.

Interior

The 2012 Panamera has a decent sized boot but does not expect to fit large luggage bags in there. The dashboard is pretty minimalistic. It seems as if Porsche designers have not paid attention to the dash. There is nothing exciting in it that would attract the attention of an enthusiast. A family car in true terms. There is an infotainment screen through which is a technology quite rare in 2012. There is no touchscreen functionality but proper buttons have been provided for you to navigate through the radio, cd player and navigation.

Engine & Performance

The standard Panamera has a 3.6-liter V6 which is powerful enough with its 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque but Porsche had a different idea in mind. They couldn’t stay still thinking about the Panamera falling into the hands of the less exciting folks. As a result, the folks at Porsche decided to offer a larger engine on the standard Panamera. The larger engine, a 4.8-liter V8 could make 400 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. However, the ambitious Porsche camp did not stop just there. They decided on making a turbocharged version of the Panamera as well. This turbo car would become an even faster version of the already insanely fast Panamera. The Panamera Turbo, as a result, received the 4.8-liter twin turbo V8. This engine was able to produce 500 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The madness doesn’t stop there. There was even a Turbo S version that could make 550 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque.

To top it all off, there is even a green hybrid version. The hybrid version gets a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 which when combined with the electric motor makes 380 hp and 427 lb-ft of torque. All the cars are rear-wheel drive while all-wheel drive is also available. All the trims get Porsche’s 7-speed dual clutch gearbox except the hybrid version which has the 8-speed automatic as standard.

Porsche has taken a different approach with its 2012 Panamera. On one side, it made the hybrid version which is a highly environment-friendly car and the other hand it made the gas-guzzling turbo monster known as the Panamera Turbo S, which was Porsche’s fastest sedan at that time. The 2012 Panamera has many advanced safety features installed in it that are not very common still. Lane Changing Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring System and Backup Camera are some of the few safety features on board.

Conclusion

The 2012 Porsche Panamera is fast but the standard version loses out to competitors like other V6 model. In that case, you have no other option than to buy a more mechanically sophisticated version of the Panamera like the Turbo or Turbo S. We really think, Porsche has provided so many options with this car that there is literally something for everyone starting from the environment-friendly individual to the speed-hungry people. To top it off, this car is very affordable so a family guy can own one and not worry about losing out on space or performance for that matter.
